National Dog Day - August 26

Aug 25, 2015

Pool filled with dogs

National Dog Day was founded in 2004, and is celebrated August 26th every year!

Here are a few fun things to do with your BFF (best furry friend) to celebrate.

Make homemade dog treats! There are several recipes on the internet for baked and frozen treats that are easy to make at home. Of course, we’re partial to our homemade Yappy Hour oatmeal biscuits.

Take your dog to the spa! What’s better than a good scalp scrub?! A scalp scrub over your entire body!  Pamper your pooch with a soothing shampoo & cream rinse, and he’ll smell great for days!

Buy a new toy…. Or 2! Every dog has a favorite toy.  Take your pup shopping at a local, pet-friendly store and treat them to a new toy.

Buy a new collar! He’s sure to strut his stuff around the neighborhood –flaunting his new accessory.

Send him to Top Dog for doggy daycare!  C’mon – five and a half hours of playtime with all of his favorite doggy friends and people… nothing says love more than treating him to that!

“National Dog Day serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.”  www.nationaldogday.com

If you can’t celebrate with your dog, consider donating to a local shelter.  Better yet, visit your local shelter and celebrate with a dog that’s still waiting to find his forever home!
